Gross gaming revenue (GGR) from licensed gambling operators active in Sweden amounted to SEK6.70bn (£481.5m/€562.8m/$603.9m) in the second quarter, down slightly year-on-year.
The quarterly total for the three months to 30 June was 1.0% lower than GGR of SEK6.77bn in Q2 last year. However, the figure, a preliminary total published by Sweden gambling regulator Spelinspektionen, was up 1.8% from SEK6.58bn in Q1 of 2023.
Breaking down the performance, commercial online gambling and sports betting drew the most GGR. This sector, which includes online casino, contributed SEK4.18bn, down 3.2% year-on-year.
GGR from state-owned lottery and slot games reached SEK1.40bn, which was 1.6% behind the SEK1.42bn in 2022.
Games for public purposes and national lotteries drew SEK896.0m, up 3.0%. However, GGR from Casino Cosmopol, the state-owned casino venture, fell 13.1% to SEK126.0m.
Other GGR included SEK48.0m from community games and bingo halls, level year-on-year. The remaining SEK51.0m was generated by land-based commercial gaming, such as restaurant casino venues, down 12.1%.
Spelinspektionen also noted that by the end of Q2, approximately 95,000 had self-excluded for gambling via Spelpaus.se. This, the regulator said, was 1.4% more than in the previous quarter.
