iGB@ICE: Playtech’s Charmaine Hogan and Apuesta Total’s Gonzalo Perez discuss gambling in Peru

Gonzalo Perez, CEO of Apuesta Total, shares his views on Peru’s newly regulated gambling market with Playtech’s head of regulatory affairs Charmaine Hogan at iGB@ICE, highlighting the importance of a supportive regulator.

While acknowledging competition from international operators, Perez emphasises the value of local expertise. Hogan and Perez also discuss the challenges posed by taxation in Peru, including the introduction of a consumption tax.

Reflecting on Apuesta Total’s growth and Cirsa’s acquisition of a 70% stake in the company in July 2024, Perez outlines how partnerships and shared expertise are boosting the operator’s hopes of continuing to lead the Peru gambling market. “We know the people, we know the politicians, we are pretty confident we will continue to be the market leader,” Perez tells Hogan.

“Of course, they [international operators] have new technology that maybe we don’t have, but that’s going to be good for us. It will make us better for our customers.”
