Super Bowl LVII Preview: Philadelphia Eagles vs. Kansas City Chiefs
One team that’s barely had to break a sweat through the postseason. Another team that made it this far with the help of a late penalty and a clutch field goal. The result is a meeting between the top seeds from each conference, as the Eagles take on the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII on Feb. 12.
In the NFC Championship game, the Eagles cruised to another relatively easy victory, routing a battered San Francisco 49ers team 31-7 after knocking two different 49ers quarterbacks out of the game. Jalen Hurts may not have had one of his monster days on offense, but he still ran for one touchdown, with Miles Sanders adding two more. It was the Eagles pass rush that really made an impact, forcing first Brock Purdy and then Josh Johnson from the game, until the 49ers were essentially left with no functioning quarterback.
Over in the AFC title game, the Chiefs had a significantly tougher time of it. After battling back and forth with the Cincinnati Bengals throughout a heated second half, the 20-20 tie was only broken with the help of a personal foul penalty on Cincinnati for a hit on quarterback Patrick Mahomes as he scampered out of bounds. The brought the Chiefs close enough for a field goal, giving them the narrow victory to send them to the Super Bowl.
Now the Chiefs will have to contend with that formidable Eagles pass rush, while the Eagles will be looking to shut down Mahomes and his prolific arsenal of targets.
Sportsbooks have pegged the Eagles as a narrow favorite, but it’s expected to be a close game – and quite possibly a high-scoring one between two high-octane offenses.
