Potential Key Missing Players
The bad news for the Kansas City Chiefs starts thick and fast. All-Pro left guard Joe Thuney was ruled out by Andy Reid earlier in the week after suffering a pectoral injury against the Buffalo Bills in the Divisional Round win. Thuney subsequently missed the AFC Championship Game against the Baltimore Ravens and from then on, it was a race against time to get healthy. Thuney’s absence likely means that Nick Allegretti takes on the role of starting left guard for the second consecutive game.
McKinnon was the only other Chiefs player not listed as a full participant in practice this week. The veteran running back suffered a sports hernia injury in the regular season and was placed on injured reserve shortly after. He was designated to return from injured reserve and is eligible to play in the Super Bowl, but Chiefs’ head coach Andy Reid has already stated that McKinnon is unlikely to play on Sunday. Expect Isaiah Pacheco and Clyde Edwards-Helaire to handle the ball-carrying duties as usual.
Rashee Rice showed up as a limited participant on Thursday’s injury report with plural ankle injuries and there was a little concern. Rice has been the Chiefs’ leading wide receiver in his rookie season and had eight catches for 130 yards and a touchdown in the Wildcard win against the Miami Dolphins. However, Rice was listed as a full participant for Friday’s practice so he’s likely all systems go.

Potential Key Missing Players
Kittle’s designation heading into Super Bowl week was a cause for concern. The veteran tight end missed practice last week with a toe injury and started this week as a limited participant. However, Kittle was upgraded to a full participant for Friday’s practice, seemingly eliminating any major doubts regarding him missing Sunday’s contest.
Prior to the playoffs, Arik Armstead hadn’t been seen since the Week 13 demolition of the Philadelphia Eagles. However, the veteran defensive tackle suited up for the 49ers’ two playoff wins. Despite that, he’s still been listed as a limited participant this week. It’s likely a precaution from the 49ers, who will be hoping to keep one of their key defensive players fresh for the Super Bowl. However, Armstead was listed as a full participant for Friday’s practice. He’ll most likely play a big role on Sunday.
Burks was listed as a limited participant early in the week after suffering a neck injury in the playoffs. The linebacker is another example of the 49ers’ stellar depth at linebacker and despite his limited status earlier in the week, Burks was upgraded to a full participant for Friday’s practice.
