Pantoja has proven himself to be a skilled grappler who can threaten with submissions or simply control a fight with wrestling and top control. Of his 27 professional wins, 10 have come via submission, with the rest almost evenly split between decisions and TKO/KO finishes.
Erceg (12-1) has been on a tear, rising through the UFC ranks from newcomer to title challenger in just three fights. He hasn’t lost a bout since 2017, and he blazed through the competition on the local Australian scene before signing with the UFC and making his debut last summer. His last outing saw him score a brutal knockout of Matt Schnell in the second round, but before that he was known more for his skill with submissions.
Pantoja represents a big jump up in competition for him. The champ could prove to be a tough stylistic matchup this early in Erceg’s UFC tenure, which likely explains his underdog status in this flyweight title fight.
