Wynn Resorts continues to unwind its WynnBET sports betting platform, and on Thursday will formally share an “intent to cease operations” letter with the Massachusetts Gaming Commission, according to the agency’s agenda. Betr, which revealed last week that it will be exiting the market, is also on the agenda to share its plan with the commission.
Once both betting apps disappear, Bay Staters will have six online sports betting selections: BetMGM, Caesars Sportsbook, DraftKings, ESPN BET, Fanatics Sportsbook, and FanDuel. WynnBET was among six operators that launched on March 10, 2023, while Betr went live in Massachusetts May 8, 2023.
WynnBET, which last summer announced it was unwinding its U.S. digital operations, still have online platforms in Michigan, Nevada, and New York. Stakeholders believed Massachusetts would survive, since the company has the only land-based casino and sportsbook in Boston.
As for Betr, it is also live in Ohio and Virginia, and so far has not announced plans to exit either market.
The pair are the latest to walk away from Massachusetts. PointsBet withdrew its application during the approval process in 2022-23. The state has some of the most stringent responsible gambling regulations in the U.S., and some projected before launch that it would be difficult for companies to make money in the state.
The letters will go before the commission at Thursday’s meeting for a vote.
Three violations also on agenda
In addition to the withdrawals, the commission will discuss violations by MGM Springfield, BetMGM, and Fanatics Sportsbook. The violations, referred to as “noncompliance issues,” are not described on the agenda, but the MGC will consider next steps.

The meeting could also result in some changes to what kinds of betting markets or wagers can be offered. Fanatics Sportsbook will request to add the Women’s Professional Hockey League and wagering on who will be named a new coach of a team. If granted, the new offerings will be available to any legal operator in the state.
The commission and staff will also discuss and share clarifications on Super Bowl prop wagers.
